El Max and its lighthouse

1850–1952

The El Max lighthouse was built in 1894 on a rock off the El Max shore, and taken out of service in 1908 when the approach line to the harbour changed.

The district today

1952 – today

On the El Agamy shore Halawa House was finished in 1975, the Haras El Hodoud stadium at El Max hosted the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations, and El Agamy District was created in 2007, split from El Amreya.
